The 1st Slough Boys’ Brigade was founded in 1925 and is based at St Andrews Methodist Church, Merton Road, Slough. We provide a comprehensive programme of exciting, educational and character-forming activities for boys with a well disciplined and Christian ethos. However, we also aim to create a warm and friendly environment where boys can have lots of fun and games and can gain a real sense of achievement through development of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline and self-respect.
Whilst catering mainly for boys and young men from families at St Andrews and Slough Baptist Church, we also provide Christian outreach to boys from non-church-based families in the Slough postcode area.
The Company has three sections.
Further detailed information about our activities, meeting times, uniform and subscription costs, behaviour, safety and safeguarding codes, location and contact details can be found on our website at 1slough.boys-brigade.org.uk. Leaflets are also available from the
Tuesday Break meets every Tuesday morning during term times from 10 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. It is open to all those who are around during the day.
We called it 'Tuesday Break' as its aim is to give parents a break from their children whilst they have an opportunity to listen to speakers and discuss issues relevant to them. We cover very practical issues regarding sleep and eating problems, discipline etc. right through to coping with teenagers and what it is like when they leave home. We also address other issues regarding stress, marriage, the role of mother/father and relationships generally.
Sometimes the sessions are lighter and provide an opportunity to have a coffee and chat or even exercise with armchair aerobics. All our speakers are Christians and give their perspective on how God has been involved in their family life.
Meanwhile the babies and children are well looked after in two separate crèches (under and over 2s). The babies and young toddlers are cared for in one room, whilst the older children can join in with a craft activity, play with a selection of toys and end their session with a drink and a story together.
